Description

Ferdinand Porsche, letters from before the WW11 about Engine construction.

Letter Content is as follows;

In the possession of your above-mentioned letter, we are honored to inform you that although we have been experimenting with a radial engine design similar to our patent application a long time ago, the vehicle in question has nothing to do with the construction , not produced. We are then deviated from this design by some rear-engine types, which we later constructed, since they were comparatively weak engines, but they still hold up for stronger rear-engine of about 40 hp up because of their short for the only one correct solution. We also took the combination of the car and the aircraft engine into consideration here and already done some preliminary work, which makes such a project seem quite feasible. However, since we, as a small company with relatively modest means, can not carry out such a construction on our own account, we must await the further development of sachs or a corresponding order from the industry to implement these plans. So we can give an absolutely positive answer to your wets letter, both that we believe the path you have outlined and that wire has a vested interest in being able to do such a construction. As far as the size of the engine to be developed is concerned, we believe that its approximately 2.5-3 liter engine with 50-60 hp braking power would be the right type for both a lightweight yet fast touring car and a cheap sports aircraft.Since this construction, as we have already stated in a statement with aircraft designers, the lowest weight would play a lesser role than the lowest price, we believe that weight should not be less than 1 kg per HP. We hope that you will always have certain guidelines with the above information, and we see the greatest interest in your further messages.

With German greeting
